La fausse anémone est une grosse anémone pouvant atteindre 20 cm de diamètre. Il a une colonne lisse qui peut être orange, jaune ou rouge. Les pointes de ses tentacules sont souvent mauves. La bouche ronde est saillante et la surface buccale peut être striée. Il a des rangées de petites protubérances rondes (sphérules) à l'extérieur de ses tentacules.
