Il guscio della Turritella terebra, ha una lunga forma a torre che ricorda un trapano, da cui il suo nome. Lo scalogno è stretto e alto, con ben 30 spirali. La conchiglia è lunga circa 14 centimetri. Il suo colore è dal marrone chiaro al marrone scuro. L'apertura è circolare.
