オークのヒキガエルは、その明るい中央背部の縞模様、さまざまな茶色と黒い斑点、それに比例して大きな耳下腺によって識別できます。この種の最も顕著な特徴の1つは、他のヒキガエルに比べて小さい成体サイズです。男性は、透明な白い腹と口の下のわずかに膨らんだ、ゆるい皮弁で女性と区別できます。これは声嚢に広がります。女性の腹は黒ずみ、声嚢はありません。
