Description
Doctorfish (Acanthurus chirurgus) is a tropical marine fish found in shallow waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Interestingly, this species has an organ in its intestinal tract that is filled with grains of sand to aid in digestion. The doctorfish mainly eats algae, and is collected for the aquarium trade and some fresh fish markets (be warned that like most reef species, consuming this fish carries a risk for ciguatera poisoning).
