Yellowfin surgeonfish (Acanthurus xanthopterus) is a marine fish found on coastal coral reefs almost worldwide. One of the rare fish species that changes coloration as it grows older, for this fish the change is so drastic that the different color phases were initially classified as separate species by early observers. Only when they were kept in aquariums did biologists notice their changes.
