Description
This poisonous fish is found along the coast of South Africa from False Bay to Maputo and is called an evil eye blow in African. The fish is black-brown to dark green with yellow stripes on its side. The back, chest and tail fins are dark, but the anal fin is white in color. The fish becomes about 25 cm tall. They occur in river mouths, sea grass beds and on sandy and rocky soils to a depth of 400 m. Their food consists of isopods, crabs and fish. When the fish feels threatened, it inflates. The fish is toxic enough that it is advisable to wash hands when touched.
