Barred tiger salamander (Ambystoma mavortium) is a terrestrial amphibian - a salamander native to western North America. A nocturnal predator, it feeds on any prey that it can overpower. The larvae are aquatic and are often sold as a fishing bait under the names 'mud puppies' or 'water dogs'. Barred tiger salamander is also commonly kept a pet, although it should not be wild-caught.
