Often overlooked and neglected by collectors, the transverse ark is a very abundant clam in the Northwest Atlantic. Unfortunately, the species has also been introduced to other parts of the world and it's considered invasive in the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea, where its populations are rapidly increasing, posing a threat to native species.
