Growing to more than 91 cm long, the speckled longfin eel is the largest eel in the fresh waters of Australia. Born in the ocean, the speckled longfin eel spends most of its adult life in freshwater streams and ponds, returning to the ocean only to spawn. It is harvested and farmed commercially for fish markets in Australia and East Asia, and also targeted by recreational fishers.
