Porkfish is a popular public aquarium fish. In the coral reefs and rocky seabeds of its natural habitat, porkfish is generally curious towards humans and easily approached by divers. Young porkfish are considered "cleaners", as they tend to clean other fish's scales of parasites and dead cells. Recreational fishing and commercial harvesting occasionally target this fish.
