The eastern smooth boxfish (Anoplocapros inermis) lives in temperate coastal waters around Australia and New Zealand. It has a hardened carapace just below the skin that gives its dead body the appearance of an exoskeleton. Eastern smooth boxfish should not be eaten, or even handled, because its skin exudes a toxic mucous when it is stressed.
