Description
Sea pork (Aplidium stellatum) is a sub-tidal tunicate not likely to be noticed by humans until it washes up on shore, which occurs after periods of maritime turbulence (such as storms). Each pink blob is actually an exoskeleton protecting a colony of individual animals living inside. It turns grey after the colony dies, making it look like a cut of salt pork lost on the beach.
