Description
The oscar (Astronotus ocellatus) is originally from the Amazon Basin, but some feral populations now live elsewhere as well. It primarily feeds on small catfish, but will also consume shrimp, insects, snails, and even nuts and fruits. They are harvested and sold for food in South American markets, but in other places they will mostly be encountered as pets in large aquariums.
