Jack silverside is the only member of the Atherinopsis genus. This fish species is native to the Pacific coast of North America, from Oregon to Baja California. Jack silverside lives in groups near the water surface and it feeds on planktons. It is harvested for commercial sale by Pacific coast fisheries.
