The trumpetfish (Aulostomus maculatus) lives in the tropical waters of the western Atlantic. Its unique, spindly body helps it hide among vertical coral, pipe sponges, and sea pens. The trumpetfish is an ambush predator that preys on fish using a vacuum motion of the mouth. Though they're usually solitary, they sometimes swim with striped parrotfish to avoid predation.
