Description
Description
Canthigaster bennetti is a ray-finned fish species from the puffer fish family (Tetraodontidae). The scientific name of the species was first validly published in 1854 by Pieter Bleeker as Tropidichthys bennetti. The species name refers to John Whitchurch Bennett. In 1834 he published the collection A selection from the most remarkable and interesting of the fishes found on the coast of Ceylon: from drawings made in the southern part of that island, from the living specimens, with descriptions and color images of thirty species of fish from Sri Lanka. Number 21, Tetrodon ocellatus was, according to Bleeker, an image of this species.
