Description
The basking shark is a cosmopolitan. Basking sharks live in all the world's seas with a temperate climate. In Fundy Bay (Canada) a specimen of 12.27 meters was caught in 1851, the animal weighed over 19 tons. According to reliable sources, the average length of a basking shark is now between 6 and 8 meters, with a maximum of 9.8 meters and a weight of 4 tons. The basking shark sifts plankton out of the water with its gill sieves.
