Description
Resembling a small slipper, the common slipper shell is a sea snail that is native to the east coast of North America. They have become an unwelcome invader in Europe and other countries. Usually found stacked on top of one another, the common slipper shell is a hermaphrodite that starts out as male and transitions to female as it moves to the bottom of the stack. The bottom-most female is the largest and oldest of all the snails in the stack.
