Red shiner (Cyprinella lutrensis) is a native North American freshwater fish that is commonly used as bait by anglers. It is also a troublesome invasive species in its non-native areas, as it eats the eggs of native species. The red shiner can hybridize with the North American blacktail shiner in the wild, which will hopefully dilute the gene pool of the invasive populations.
