The european bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) is a type of sea bass found around Europe and North Africa. The juveniles form schools and typically stay away from the seafloor and coastlines, then become more solitary as they mature and move into river estuaries. This was one of the first species to be commercially farmed in Europe, and is currently cultivated most commonly in Mediterranean nations.
