Moving quickly along the sandy shore, the northern moon snail has a large foot that extends from its shell, allowing it to pursue its prey. Feeding on mollusks, the northern moon snail releases an acidic secretion that softens the shell of its victim and renders it helpless. It has an insatiable appetite and groups of these can significantly reduce a local population of mollusks.
