Description
The eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) lives in shallow, slow-moving lakes and streams. They are strongly sexually dimorphic, with females growing nearly twice the length of males. Nevertheless, the males are aggressive, and female eastern mosquitofish group into shoals to reduce harassment from the males. This species gives birth to live young, and can have as many as nine broods in a single mating season.
