Sailor's grunt inhabits the coastal reefs in the western Atlantic Ocean, where it lives in small groups. Like all other members of the genus Haemulon, it is a valuable commercial fish species considered very good to eat. Sailor's grunt is often found in public aquariums and it's sometimes sought as a game fish.
