Description
Garibaldi (Hypsypops rubicundus) inhabit coastal waters off North America's West Coast. They primarily eat invertebrates from the seafloor. Male garibaldi create sheltered nests during breeding season. A female will lay her eggs in the nest and depart, leaving the male to guard them. Guardian garibaldi are aggressive to anything that approaches the nest, and are known to bite human divers that come too close.
