Description
The smooth trunkfish (Lactophrys triqueter) is a boxfish with some very interesting behaviors. It puffs jets of water from its mouth into the sandy seabed to uncover buried invertebrates. It also secretes a toxin when threatened, which can kill nearby fish. Aquarium keepers should therefore think carefully about tankmates for this distinctive fish.
