Native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the longhorn cowfish (Lactoria cornuta) has such a distinctive look that it is often collected just to be dried and hung as an ornamental decoration. It is also popular in marine aquariums, despite its somewhat aggressive temperament. Care must be taken by aquarium keepers, as this fish can release a toxin into the water when threatened which can be lethal to its tank mates.
