The spot fish (Leiostomus xanthurus) is a common coastal inhabitant and an important part of the marine food chain, being preyed upon by nearly every larger predatory fish in the Caribbean and North American East Coast. Humans love them too, fishing them both commercially and for sport. Their meat is quite good fried.
