Often used as bait for lobster traps and other large fish, the little skate is usually harvested as bycatch by commercial fisherman of the northwest Atlantic. It lives on sandy or gravel floors of shallow waters. It is useful for fishmeal, as well as in scientific labs for biochemical and physiological experiments.
