Description
The mutton snapper (Lutjanus analis) is a mostly solitary coastal dweller found around the Caribbean and tropical Atlantic. Young mutton snappers eat plankton but transition to snails, shrimp, crabs, and small fish as they mature. Their tendency to fight against fishing lines combined with their flaky white meat has made them popular game fish, although they do carry a risk for ciguatera poisoning.
