Northern red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) is an Atlantic fish that is often found on restaurant menus. In many cases, though, the fish offered at restaurants may be a different species of snapper that is cheaper or easier to obtain, as northern red snapper has been overfished and its harvesting is currently tightly regulated. Like all fish that feed near reefs, its flesh carries a risk for ciguatera poisoning.
