The smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu) inhabits relatively clear rivers and lakes in North America. They are adaptable and easy to transport, so they've been introduced in many non-native territories. Smallmouth bass migrate to deeper bodies of water as winter approaches, and have been known to cover over 60 miles in a migration season. They enter a state of semi-hibernation in cold conditions.
