The humpnose big-eye bream (Monotaxis grandoculis) inhabits sandy and rocky areas of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It primarily hunts at night, along the bottom. Humans hunt it both commercially and recreationally, for food and the aquarium trade. Eating this fish can occasionally cause ciguatera poisoning, depending on its lifelong diet.
