Description
New zealand eagle ray (Myliobatis tenuicaudatus) is a ray found in the waters around New Zealand and Australia. It detects its invertebrate prey even when completely submerged in mud by using electro-sensory organs in its head. It has a venomous spine in its tail; the toxin can be neutralized through soaking in hot water. They are sometimes harvested as bycatch in nets and retained for sale in local markets.
