 Description

The rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) is an iconic relative of the salmon. Most spend their whole lives in lake and river systems, but some varieties venture into the Pacific. They are often farmed commercially, especially in Idaho, but are more susceptible to disease in farm conditions. They're also among the most common game fish taken from North America's alpine rivers.
