Description
Like all other flatfishes, southern flounder begins life with a symmetrical face, but as it grows its right eye migrates to the other side of the head. The fish starts to swim sideways and lies in wait for prey flat on the ocean floor. Due to recreational and commercial fishing, southern flounder is declared "near threatened" by the IUCN.
