A unique jellyfish, the mauve stinger can sting with both its bell and its tentacles. Producing one of the worst stings of all the jellyfish, the pain can last for weeks. Even when dead, the mauve stinger has enough toxin to sting if stepped on or brushed against. Caution should be exercised when spotting them in the water or encountering a dead jellyfish on the beach.
