Description
Spotted tilapia (Pelmatolapia mariae) is a member of the cichlid family and probably one of the better known invasive species of fish. Native to Central and West Africa, it has spread through the warmer regions of the world via the fish trade. The fact that the species is aggressive and territorial, herbivorous, and prolific breeders has made spotted tilapia too successful in many non-native habitats.
