Small-scale sweeper (Pempheris compressa) is a nocturnal fish that, like all sweepers, prefers to hide along craggy underwater reefs or rock features during the day. At night, they leave these hiding places to forage for phytoplankton, their preferred food. Younger specimens may enter coastal estuaries in search of food and shelter.
