Description
Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) is an eel-like parasitic fish which latches onto other unfortunate fish with its jawless, sucker-like mouth. Tiny, needle-sharp teeth arranged in circular rows penetrate the host fish's skin and enable sea lamprey to feed on its blood, earning it a nickname "Vampire fish." Once a traditional food source, it is now too often contaminated to be considered safe for human consumption.
