Description

The angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) hails from the Amazon river, where it prefers swamps and flooded land where vegetation is dense. They eat many types of worms as well as a few small shrimp and fish. Commercially, angelfish are sold to aquarists. Unfortunately, artificial selection has resulted in some aquarium varieties becoming dangerously inbred.
