Description
The first description was made in 1846 by Achille Valenciennes. Because of its wide distribution, Rapana venosa has been described several times. It is also under the original description combination Purpura venosa (Valenciennes, 1846) as well as under the synonyms Rapana marginata (Valenciennes, 1846), Rapana pechiliensis (Grabau & King, 1928), Rapana pontica (Nordsieck, 1969) and Rapana thomasiana (Crosse, 1861) known.
