The rainbow parrotfish (Scarus guacamaia) is a tropical species found in the western Atlantic. Unlike other parrotfish, instead of coral it has evolved to feed mainly on detritus, tiny invertebrates, and occasionally sponges. The rainbow parrotfish is considered a vulnerable species due to overfishing by Caribbean anglers and loss of its reef habitats.
