Description
Like many parrotfish, the rivulated parrotfish (Scarus rivulatus), changes sex as it ages. Older males are identifiable by the orange patch of scales along the cheeks, whereas females are grayish in color. They move onto the reef flat to feed during high tide, and everyday humans may encounter trapped individuals in tidal pools as they wait for another high tide.
