Description
The sand whiting (Sillago ciliata) is a saltwater dweller found along the east coast of Australia and New Caledonia. It inhabits relatively shallow waters with sandy bottoms where it can dig for its prey. The sand whiting is fished both commercially and recreationally. Farming of this species only became viable around the late 1980s.
