The great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) is an open-sea predator that hunts fish and cephalopods by ambush. It is capable of quick bursts of speed but is not particularly maneuverable. Great barracudas are fished as game, but will release a foul-smelling odor when caught. They do not often attack divers, but their sharp teeth can cause severe lacerations if they do choose to bite.
