Description
Giant sea bass (Stereolepis gigas) is a wreckfish native to the Pacific Ocean. It is not a true sea bass and is not in the sea bass family. Regardless, it was widely harvested as a food source and recreational fishing target, until the species nearly went extinct off the coast of California in the 1980s. It is still listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. Now they are only to be hunted by divers, hoping to catch a glimpse of this massive fish.
