Common in the freshwater rivers of its range, vairone (Telestes muticellus) is a popular species for fly-fishing in France, Switzerland and Italy. Exclusively carnivorous, large schools of individuals will consume all manner of insects, larvae and crustaceans. It has little commercial value outside of recreational activities.
