Description
Giant clams (Tridacna gigas) are the largest bivalve mollusks on Earth. They can live over 100 years and grow to weigh 200 kg or more. Giant clams are found in relatively shallow-water reefs around the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Their tissue hosts algae species from which they can derive some of their nutrition, and they make up the rest by filtering plankton.
