Description
The Red Spitzkopfschleimfisch (Tripterygion tripteronotum) is a species of the family of the three-finned slime fish (Tripterygiidae). The soil-dwelling species occurs in rocky, algae-covered habitats along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea at a depth between 0 m and 3 m. The Red Spitzkopffleisch are one of the most common to very common species in the Mediterranean. From April to August one can recognize the sexually mature males of this kind well at their red colored body and the black colored head. Females and young males are beige to gray-brown and hard to spot on rocky ground. Red headed lice fish feed on carnivorous and eat mainly small invertebrates.
