The northern crested newt has a hearty appetite and loves to eat worms, slugs and bugs. A land newt, the northern crested newt chooses a home near an acceptable water source to maintain the moisture in its skin. It also heads for the water when it is time to mate. Native to Europe, it has a long lifespan of 16 to 25 years.
